A Note About Ecology Conscious Signage Fabrication

Studium Arts prides itself on being environmentally conscious and producing eco-friendly signage as often as possible. From using non-PVC vinyl films, such as 3M Envision & using primarily post consumer recyled products we strive to not only produce the best possible signage, print materials & other products, but do it while keeping the environment in mind and whenever applicable using low-impact materials, recycled metals, & always properly disposing of old signs in a manner that will not impact the environment negatively.

 

 

Here are some of the steps were taking to ensure we protect the environment

 

• Sandblasting on HDU Precision Board Plus which is the Green alternative to High Density Urethane or typical foam sandblasted signs, painted with ecofriendly paints.

• Metal signs-using partly or entirely recycled metals for new cast metal signage.

• Studium Arts now offers Eco-friendly large format printing that has been designed with the environment in mind.  Our new printing method uses water-based Latex inks that print odorless and it uses recyclable media & non-PVC vinyls that can be sent back for recycling.  The media is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions without fading and losing vibrancy.   The ink cartridges, print-heads, cleaning supplies and print media can be returned for recycling to HP thru their media take-back program.  Even the printer itself is 85% recyclable by weight.  Studium Arts is committed to continually improve our footprint on the environment.

• Recycling Program - We are totally committed to recycling as much as possible of our sign making materials.  Our recycling program is set up to safely dispose and recycle many of our used products and materials to our local recycling facility here in Yonkers, NY.

• Studium Arts has added a new 3M vinyl.  This new vinyl is ECO friendly and contains no PVCs.  The 3M Envision wrap film and gloss laminate doesn’t tear as easily, conforms easier than conventional wrap material for a better material stretch. The laminate is more scratch and scuff resistant, resulting in a nicer finished product.  The laminate also offers both UV and acid corrosion resistance.  

• All aluminum and other metal scraps from our metal lettering jobs are recycled. In fact, most metals we select to use contain a high percentage of recycled content. This is just the beginning of a growing trend in recyclable material applications within our industry.

• We now use LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) in all lighted signage. These ultra low voltage lights use far less electricity than neon or even fluorescent bulbs. They currently illuminate our backlit signs, halo-lit letters and similar applications.

• Aluminum pucks and standoff systems provide green fastening solutions that are alternatives to adhesive.

• We only use low VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) in our paints.

• More efficient project planning helps us reduce waste by nesting together jobs that use identical materials.

• We now manufacture all metal signage and bronze plaques without heavy metal elements like mercury and lead

• All scrap metal is recycled

• Anodized or powder coated aluminum, which is standard on all our aluminum lettering and logos, is more eco friendly than painted.

• Reduced use of chemicals in production and proper disposal when it is used.
